Culver City Bus has announced the expansion of the Culver City 6 Rapid Line with the purchase of six new compressed natural gas (CNG) buses that were purchased with air quality grant funds. Each bus was purchased for $25,000 with Clean Transportation Funding from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC). The MSRC funds products that reduce air pollution in the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD).
Over the past five years, the Culver City Transportation Department has received over $2 million from these sources. Once MSRC posts funding opportunities on its website, Culver City staff evaluate the current fleet of motor vehicles to identify those should be replaced with newer, cleaner burning, equipment. Since 1996, Culver City’s green fleet was named #1 Best Green Fleet in North America for 2009. The Southern California Gas Company has estimated that Culver City saves over $1 million per year on fuel due to its natural gas fleet.

The Culver City Bus operates 100% on compressed natural gas (CNG) and over 100 other CNG vehicles are in use throughout the city.
